Learn How To Skateboard Today

Skateboarding is an incredibly popular sport today. No longer thought of nothing more than a fun hobby, skateboarding is now considered as being a legit sport and there are professional athletes who make their living off skating. Anyone who's interested in getting started in the sport is going to need to take the time to learn how to skateboard. Good balance is an important skill and there are a few moves that must be mastered if you want to know how to skateboard.

The first that should be mastered is actually the first skating trick ever invented, the Ollie. As a beginner it's probably best if you invest in some elbow and knee pads as well because you're liable to fall down a few times before you get the hang of things. Learning the Ollie is the best way to get started, as this is one of the most basic and integral tricks of the sport. Usually however Ollies are used more when the board is moving and in combinations with other trick moves.

For an Ollie you place your front foot in the middle and back foot at the end of the skateboard. Bend down a little and then push down hard on the back end of the skateboard and as the board starts to come up in the front you need to slide your front foot up towards the front end of the board and this will raise the board into the air. As the front of the board starts to come up you slide your foot up more towards the front end of the board and kick even harder down with this foot. Make sure to keep your feet close to the board at all times so you don't fall off when making your landing. The Manual is another very basic trick and one that any person learning how to skateboard should work on.

This is a trick that lifts the front wheels of the board up and has you balancing on two wheels while moving. It's definitely neat to watch and a bit tricky to perform. Then you just want to put one foot on the tail and one near the middle of the board and once you're near the object you want to Ollie onto, perform the Ollie then land on your back wheels and ride for as long as you can maintain balance. As long as you can maintain your balance you can do a Manual for as long as the board keeps moving. Boardsliding is another really cool trick which you can do after you have mastered the Ollie. You want to ride the board down the rail then Ollie back off onto the side you started from. This trick can be a bit more difficult to get the hang of but is amazing when you perfect it.
