Parachute Skydiving—Learn The Basics

Parachuting is the predecessor of today’s most popular extreme sports, skydiving. Parachuting and skydiving always go together because the latter cannot be accomplished without the help of the former, thus the term parachute skydiving exist.

The concept of parachute skydiving dates back from the old Chinese history though there were no clear accounts of as to who first imagined it. However, the idea must have sprung from the invention of the kite. Similarly, Leonardo da Vinci had his own version of a canopy-like drawing that resembled like that of today’s parachute. There were many attempts in the past that used parachute in descending from a tall building. It was until Andre-Jacques Garnerin who made a successful attempt descending using a balloon, therefore parachute skydiving came into being.

An eager skydiver wanting to prove his or mettle in skydiving must first master some basic skills before he or she is allowed to jump from a plane. The four rudiments in parachute skydiving are: fundamental safety, free fall plan, parachute usage and manipulation, and safe landing. All these are the essentials in skydiving that anyone who want to try defying gravity has to absorb by heart.

The fundamental safety also means finding the answers of the hows and whens of this sport. This includes checking the gadgets and gears, proper procedure in jumping from the plane, presence of mind in reacting incase of emergency, parachute deployment, managing parachute failure, selecting a good lading site, and making the actual landing.

The second basic element in parachute skydiving, which is the free fall plan, includes managing a stable position while the body is moving downward at a velocity of 120mph. The skill will prepare the jumper in opening the parachute after such time that the free fall rate is exhausted. Maneuvering the movement in turning the body is one of the essential aspects that must be learned by a skydiving neophyte.

Parachute usage and manipulation is the other fundamental in parachute skydiving. It teaches the students how to open the parachute in mid air as safely as they can even if there are reserve chute just in case the major chute fails to open. Opening the parachute requires good timing in maneuvering against the blow of the wind. The students are taught how to does a chute work and what it is made of. More than that the proper procedure in opening the chute is most necessary.

The last of the basics is the choosing a landing site. This is very important, unless of course if the student is so adventurous that she or he wants to end up in a thick forest or an open sea. Choosing the right landing area with the help of the instructors is necessary to avoid faulty landing.

Parachute skydiving can be best enjoyed if the necessary basic skills are mastered. This will not only help the skydivers enjoy the sport but protect their lives as well.
