Easy Tips For An Enjoyable Small Game Hunting: Rabbit Hunting

Hunting in the winter is really fun especially for beginners. During the early months of the year it may seem difficult to find rabbits because they change their location and their habits in the field. Here are some tips that will help a hunter find rabbits during winter season.

1. Expert hunters know that a rabbit and deer eat the same type of food,
so it stands to reason that you should find the deer feeding areas. You may find the feeding plots on public land or in private land hunting areas.

2. You can hunt for rabbits in blackberry and raspberry bushes as they provide shelter and food for rabbits. These bushes grow tall and wild especially in warmer seasons and rabbits shelter themselves from the heat of the sun in the bushes.

3. You may also find a fencerow that attracts a rabbit. A rabbit runs to a fencerow when they are disturbed in the field. Expert hunters advise beginners to work accurately and carefully along the fences. They can disturb (flush) the rabbits hiding in the grown bushes along the fences by shaking them repeatedly.

4. You can find more rabbits where there is clover which is a favorite food of rabbits especially during the winter season. These plants grow in well-drained fields and loose soil. You may find large crops of clover in a field where there is no shade.

5. Try to find the multiflora and honeysuckle roses that grow wild because bunnies shelter themselves under these plants. However, these plants are very hard to find and are difficult to handle since they have thick and sharp thorns.

6. You may use beagles for cold climate hunting. Beagles smell better when it is cold. This makes them effective in finding the location of the rabbits. They may also be used in chasing the rabbits.

7. Check areas where there are cedar trees where rabbits live during winter and rainy seasons. Cedar trees are big and have thick foliage so you can often find rabbits hiding under their limbs. A hunter can shake the limbs or yell to disturb the rabbits to get them out from under the cedar tree.

Rabbits are attracted to plants and trees that grow quickly. Most expert hunters advise beginners to analyze the condition of the area and its climate before hunting. It is beneficial for hunters to understand the habitat and food of the rabbits; which will provide a hunter easy and enjoyable hunting.
