Tips For Stalking Prey In Small Game Hunting

Hunting takes skill and patience to be able to excel in the sport. It isn’t just about having the best rifle and equipment but also requires teamwork and planning to accomplish your goal.

Small game hunting isn’t just about pointing the rifle at the target and pulling the trigger. A person has to learn how to track the animal to be able to take it down.

Since hunters don’t have the ability to smell or catch the scent of an animal, using dogs can help.

Animals such as a deer have sensitive hearing. To be able to sneak up on the prey, hunters should move slowly and quietly in the forest. By crouching low at all times, he will avoid being detected and be able to sneak near his target.

If there is an animal in sight, hunters should use sign language to communicate with one another to enable them to surround the animal and close any avenue of escape.

Since this takes time, foot movement is crucial. The hunter should always have one foot firmly on the ground before moving the other one forward. This will keep the person balanced at all times and necessary when carrying a gun.

When there is an animal in sight, the hunter should keep the animal in view at all times. Should the target make eye contact, the hunter should stay very still until the prey looks in another direction.

Animals are also sensitive to certain colors - especially white. If the hunter is able to get within 10 feet or less, the hunter should avoid moving the eyes or showing any teeth since even this can make the animal run.

If an animal frequents a certain area, there are many things that a hunter can use to lure his prey. These devices can decoys, animal calls and food to be used as bait. The hunter should hide in a tree or stay behind bushes and wait until the prey enters the kill zone.

Hunting is always exciting for beginners and the experienced as well. There are always lessons to learn which can be applied during future hunting trips.

Those who choose to participate might have to wait hours before finding prey. It is a test of wills on the part of an individual or group to be able to succeed in this endeavor.
