Soccer News – Lehmann offers Kahn the Goal

It seems even teammates can be bitter rivals, as was proved by Jens Lehmann and Oliver Kahn. But Lehmann, Germany primary goalkeeper was prepared to step back for the old star, as he indicated last July 6. He was ready to sit out the third-place match against Portugal (with their previous 2-0 defeat to Italy) to give his German rival a final taste for the world cup on what would probably Kahn’s (now 37) last days in the World Cup.

This animosity sparked when he lost his status as the first choice goalie for the highly competitive German National Team to Jens Lehmann. When the German team manager Jürgen Klinsmann announced his decision to use Lehmann as the number one spot goalkeeper for Germany on April 7, 2006, Kahn’s hopes for playing in the 2006 World Cup was crushed.

Kahn was widely blamed for the recent World Cup where he conceded a goal to Brazilian wonder Ronaldo. Though Kahn had prepared so much to help Germany win the World Cup this time, he sat the majority of the tournament.

Soccer News – FIFA Disciplinary teams decides on Rooney’s suspension

When Wayne Rooney’s boot made contact with the Portuguese Defender Ricardo Carvalho’s groin, referee Horacio Elizondo was already raising up a red card. But things got worse when Rooney also pushed Cristiano Ronaldo in the chest. After that, England played the game with a 10 man team, which led into overtime and lost the penalty shoot out to Portugal.

Rooney will be facing a fine and a ban that will rule him out of the start of the Euro 2008 qualifying campaign, though the FA officials are also hopeful that Rooney will be given a minimal two competitive international suspension.

The English national player insisted that he was trying to keep possession of the ball and when Ricardo Carvalho slipped to where he would likely land. Both players play for Manchester United.

Soccer New – Rooney or Ronaldo may be facing a transfer

Ferguson will be having a say when Wayne Rooney returns on July 24. Or rather, he will have a lot to say to the Portugal wingman Cristiano Ronaldo when he returns on July 31. Either way, Ferguson will have a lot of reconciling for these two, especially for Ronaldo who may have acquired the English fans’ a sour taste after his contribution for the Rooney dismissal at England’s World Cup exit. What’s worse was that he was seen by media winking at the benched Rooney as a reaction to the red card.

Unless the situation changes, the animosity between Rooney and Ronaldo will be felt on the pitch. Meanwhile, Real Madrid coach Fabio Capello has ride on the rumors that Ronaldo may be heading to Bernabeu but he did not actually say he was willing to bid for the Portuguese star.
