Swimming Galas For Aspiring Young Swimmers
Swimming competitions and meets have been participated by several professional and expert swimmers who have trained for quite a time. These are opportunities to show their swimming skills and prowess, and for people to know them in their area or country.
However, there are also those who want to compete as beginners or starters, there are those young ones who are still not old enough to contest in those big races, and there are also those children who are good swimmers but still starting to train. For sure, they will never be qualified in those swimming meets, they are still starting to develop their swimming abilities, but they also want how they fare compared to others. This is why, some organizations, schools, and clubs organize swimming galas (or swimming carnivals, as they call it in Australia). These swimming galas are usually held at the end of the summer --- swimming events and races are contested by the young ones and their team leaders --- for the purpose of competition, fund raising, and social bonding.
Swimming galas will allow children to develop discipline, confidence, camaraderie, competitiveness, teamwork, and sociability. Parents and trainers should help and assist the kids in instilling these values by letting them do things on their own, and advising them the important things to know before, during, and after a swimming gala. First, let them pack their own bags, let them know that the swimming gala is for them and about them, so they must know what they need, what they’ll use, and what to pack. But, make sure also, that you monitor or check what they are putting in their bags, ensure that those are basic items needed in their swimming gala --- from swimming attires, swimming gears, dry clothes and towels, food and drinks, etc. --- at least have them bring an extra thing or two of their most essential stuff. Advise them to get all the rest and energy possible before the swimming gala --- good sleep, good food, and good attitude --- or else, their weeks and months of training would only go down the drain. Make them use their spare time during the swimming gala to warm-up and boost their energy --- this is to keep their adrenaline rush going, blood circulation moving, and their muscles stretching. Have them meet new swimmers, observe good swimmers, and support their co-swimmers. Let them know that the swimming gala is not only for themselves but for all the aspiring swimmers participating --- so, guide them by reminding them to maintain a clean area and pool for everyone’s safety and benefit.
Surely, children look forward to having a blast in these swimming galas --- swimming their best, winning the races, and meeting new friends --- so, be sure to support them and appreciate their efforts.
