Table tennis has the reputation of being one of the most popular varieties of sports in the world today. The lids or covers of cigar boxes, and even thick enough books, were used as table tennis blades, in the advent of table tennis as a sport. Eventually, due to the popularity of the game, manufacturers geared up in selling more defined table tennis equipment.

The discovery of using celluloid novelty balls in a table tennis game paved for the development of the now standard table tennis blades which are being used in table tennis games today. Table tennis blades, paddles or rackets are basically pieces of wood shaped like a paddle, having a handle, and then layered either on one or two sides with rubber.
