Important Volleyball Terms

Volleyball was once a rather obsolete sport but is now one of the most popular in the world. It requires concentration, strength and commitment. If you want to get started in volleyball, there are a few terms that you should learn. If you aren't sure about the volleyball teams then you can't communicate properly with other players on your team and will lose games.

Of all the different volleyball terms used one of the most important is assist. An assist is made when one player on a team passes, sets or digs the ball to a teammate who then scores a point. This way it's not only the player scoring the point that gets recognition but also the player who helped set up the winning goal. A floater is a serve that seems to float up in the air rather than going directly over the net while spinning.

Floaters can be helpful when used in a game because they can confuse the other team and have them unsure of where the ball is actually going to land. Players will often serve floaters to trick the other team and have them unsure of where they need to be to hit the ball. To pepper players are set up in pairs and will then pass, set and hit the ball back and forth. This is not only good for the muscles but also makes sure that players are on point before the game begins.

Yellow card is a term that refers to a warning given for misconduct of any player. This is similar to the yellow flag that is used in football, and is used to give a warning to the team. The term trap set is used when there is a very tight set to the net and the ball is so low that the other team is usually not able to get the ball back over the net. There are other volleyball terms used as well and these are just a few that you're likely to hear the most.

It's essential to learn volleyball terms before getting started in a game. You will need to work on your underhanded and overhanded serves, as well as spiking and blocking the ball. You need to work on your serves as well as offensive moves such as blocking the ball. Working on your vertical jump is also important and will help you power up higher to block and spike the ball.
