WRESTLING AND ITS EFFECTS

Wrestling is a most famous sport at present. Though having emerged from ancient treasure, wrestling is now known more, for the associated violence, dramatized character, and artificial hoopla being surrounded with.

Technology revolution has resulted in a uniform platform where every show has a reach to every grade and age of people and amongst all these, wrestling is a pioneer. Countless fans indicate its growing popularity. Nevertheless, this increasing popularity that in fact is turning out into madness is a thing of concern.

Wrestling, now a day is more of showbiz then the sports itself. Wrestlers use abusive and harsh words, which would land most people in jail, i.e. I will kill you, using this harsh language inside arena which surely affects the young watchers adversely.

Wrestlers instead of inventing new techniques are, more busy with new dialogues and their trademarks (damn anything, from a specific music or style). Technical and classic hookups are the rare things that one could find in present wrestling. In addition, if in case, one shows that art then hardly he found any takers of the same, usually such wrestler has to search for promoters and the audiences.

Small kids today, tried to intimidate other counterparts in way of their wrestling icons and attempts to follow in their footsteps by adopting same kind of language, dress ups etc.
A 12-year-old boy in Florida killed a 6-year-old girl unknowingly, when he was trying to imitate a wrestler’s move. In addition, this kind of news is not surprising in present date. The exposure to violence is the strongest factor behind the increasing incidence of gun carrying and other violence among adolescents.

In mid 90’s, World Wrestling Federation (WWF) was introduced to Israeli TV and short after a survey was carried out between various schools to examine the results of wrestling shows being aired. The findings were astonishing. A remarkable increase in the playground injuries was noticed. Children were using wrestlers like moves among themselves, which in certain cases had even led to serious injurious. Then special literacy programs were run in order to educate youngsters about the onscreen mania.

Wrestling now is termed as cool, which really is awesome. People watch wrestling religiously on weekends and have a sheer dedication towards this sport. One can find a sheer mass of people in the arena watching the event. They all are hooked up as if being mesmerized. However, this kind of liking is not a problem but the consequences of this do pose a problem.

Teenagers are the most influenced category. More or less, they follow these wrestlers in every segment unaware of the fact that this is their fake character being designed to serve the on screen appeal. Wrestlers themselves are very different in real life, then what they pretend to be inside the arena. However, it is their arena image, which the watchers take along for home.

The area of concern is the shift in behavioral and cultural context. Besides vulgarity and violence, the other major harm is the change in the mental process of people. Wrestling had made people believe that the use of inhumane techniques is an approved thing, as to punish anyone.

It has degraded the level of substance of a common person. Sexuality is no more obscene thing and woman wrestlers are often seen acting more as prostitute rather then a player. The high ill treatment from male counterparts inside arena is easily accepted rather enjoyed by the leering crowd.

One can say that wrestling is just another play presenting itself in the mode, its fans want and should not be condemned for same, but the question that exists is whether this great play of old time is building good values in people or rather rusting the existing one.
