Ways to Reduce Stress At Work

People, especially those at work, are vulnerable to stress. Even the most relaxed and the calmest person can give in to stress if he works in an office.

Depending on the person, the slightest problems or concerns can trigger stress. Some get stressed when they find out that the coffee machine in the office is broken, if they are stuck in traffic on the way to work, when they learn that a lot of things have to be done immediately or if they do not meet a deadline.

Stress can prevent a person from being productive and efficient at work. Therefore, it is important to reduce stress so that you can carry your day successfully. Here are some simple ways that can help you reduce stress.

An effective way to reduce stress is to count to 10. Doing this helps you mentally avoid or get away from a potentially stressful moment.

Try to think of counting as a remote control device. The play button is analogous to the work you are doing now. You press the pause button and start counting from 1 to 10. Once you reach 10, you press the play button again. Counting will make you focus more on the tasks that need to be done.

Another effective way to reduce stress is to leave your workplace for a moment. When you feel that you are stressed, get up, walk away from your work station, go outside the office and relax. Take a quick walk or get some air. This will give you a few minutes to clear your head. Come back when you are refreshed and clear headed.

Missing a break like this would make you feel more frustrated as you continue on your job. It would prevent you from thinking properly.

Sometimes, it is not possible for you to get out of your workplace. In this case, you would need to do something that could relax you. Some suggestions are to listen to your favorite music on CD, read a book or mediate. This will help you relax for a few minutes.

Squeezing a stress ball or some other soft object can help reduce stress. Some people carry a towel or a hanky and wring it. Believe it or not, this action can relive tension and anxiety.

Breathing slowly and deeply is also good for reducing stress. It clears your mind and calms you down. If you feel that your heart palpitates and you are going over the edge, take deep breaths to calm yourself down.

These simple techniques are sure to keep you stress free and on the go.
