If you seem to consistently run out of time - or time seems to be always not enough for all the scheduled things for you to do, you may have some time management issues to tackle. With time management, you can get the most out of your available time - even with how little you may have.

Many people from all walks of life continuously feel that they are always raising against time. They feel they are always at the mercy of it - and thus, time becoming a scarce resource for everyone. Time - should thus be considered a treasure which everyone has -but which everyone runs out as well from time to time.

Whether one is at work or at home - or even at play, time is a valuable resource. Being able to manage it well, could very well mean your success or failure of what you are doing. By being conscious about time, you are on your way towards making good use of it - and eventually doing yourself a favor with an organized life.

Time Is Precious!

Haven't you heard this sentence ever since you were a kid? And yet, the message it tries to convey seem to usually disappear in thin air as time passes by. One usually losses the meaning this sentence imparts, not realizing that it holds the key towards our deadline-driven society.

Time is precious - it couldn't get as basic as it is. With so many things to do and with the limited amount of time you always have - it obviously is one resource one can't get enough of. In one's lifetime, you only have so much time on your hands. Not valuing it would mean a loss that can never be recovered.

Once time is lost, you will never have it back again. You can only wish to, but all you can do is make use of what is left of it. If you have continually wasted time, you have thrown away one valuable resource man has only so much of.

There are ways however to maximize the time you have. Read on below and use these practical tips in time management so that you will accomplish more tasks with the limited time you have.

? Do Only the Value-Adding Activities

One has to learn to value time. Being conscious that time lost can never be taken back will force you to reconsider the activities that you normally do. It will make you rethink on the activities that keep you busy throughout the day.

You should continually examine the activities you do - and evaluate these in relation to your goals. If the activity does not help you in any way towards the achievement of your goal, then you should eliminate it. Only if you have additional time left, then you can consider doing said activity - otherwise there is no use doing it.

You should only do the value adding activities - meaning, those activities that will contribute towards a quality job and towards the completion of it. These value-adding activities will help you get closer towards the accomplishment of your planned tasks or projects.

Before you do anything - in fact, even during your planning stage - you should already evaluate the activities you will schedule. In this way, you are sure that anything in your list of scheduled activities are all worth doing. The activities in the list are your priorities - all others can come later.

? Plan Your Day

When you are able to lay out the things to do in your list, you will feel more in control of the situation you are in. Not only does this give you an edge psychologically, you are bound to really complete these tasks as per the completion date you have set.

With a good plan, you will be orderly in your approach. This will mean you get to allocate sufficient time for each activity and in the process - you are able to do each reasonably well. You will be guided on what comes next in line for you right after each completed activity.

Being able to plan your day would mean less stressful days and nights for you. Having a comprehensive plan on accomplishing your tasks, you are able to see the coverage of the whole work you have yet to do. With this you are really able to appreciate the extent of the activities lined up on your list.

With a comprehensive plan, you will know whether you are currently aligned to your schedule of activities. You can then adjust and redirect your efforts should you need to.

Time management all starts with a good plan. Being able to put into writing what you have to do and rating it according to importance is a good way to start. The more detailed you can get, the better. Being able to specify to the hour what you plan to do will prevent you from wasting precious minutes to other activities.

Different individuals have different preferences. Some would want to tackle first the most difficult activities and then moving down to less complex ones. Their reason is that they want to be fresh when taking on the more difficult activities. Being so will make them more able to cope up to the demands of these difficult ones.

Some would however want to do the easier tasks first. In this way, they are able to finish some easier activities and have a feeling of accomplishment with this. They are more psychologically prepared to handle the more difficult ones later on. With the small wins they have scored, they feel they are more prepared to complete the remaining more complex activities.

Whichever category of individuals you belong, the most important thing is not to lose the momentum. At the very least, you should make every effort to continue on with what you have started. Never procrastinate and just push through towards your targets.

It is all about your persistence to complete all tasks at hand. It wouldn't really matter whether you started with the more difficult one or with the easier one - this is mainly psychological. So whatever approach you choose, wouldn't matter as much as your commitment to complete all things you still have yet to do.

? Stick to Your Schedule

There is nothing more detrimental towards the completion of your tasks than not being able to stick to your planned schedule. Your schedule is there as it is meant to be followed strictly. If there should be instances requiring you to adjust, then do so.

But if you had to adjust because you engaged yourself with activities not as per plan and more so if such are not value adding towards the accomplishment of your tasks - then you have dug a hole for yourself towards failure.

It is alright to be quite flexible with your plan, as long as it is necessary. But the ideal should be to stick to it and do all you can to meet the set targets - else you have to re-plan in consideration of the consequences.

If you can, always stick to your schedule. This will be less problematic for you and will be much easier to measure your performance. By doing so, you will not have to go over the pending tasks and re-evaluate your situation. For less problems and worries, stick to your schedule and do everything you can to make it happen.

? Evaluate Your Performance

With your list of activities to do, it is best to measure how you are doing against your plan. You can measure by percentage completion - and you can do this by specific points in time. This will make you aware of the time left and consider the extent of your work that still has to be done to consider it completed.

Knowing how you stand against your plan will allow you to re-assess your situation and see what are affected with your current performance. It could be that the timelines of some activities will have to be adjusted - and could also be that you will have to double your efforts so that you will be right back in track.

Evaluating your performance can also give you a picture on how you usually measure to the standards you set. You will know the trend of your performance and with such data - you can analyze why it is so.

If you show a good trend towards continually completing each task, then you should continue on with what you are doing. If however your trend is towards continually failing to meet the deadline, then you should find out what factors have caused these. You should then make every effort to address these factors and avoid such to affect the meeting of your deadlines in the future.

Learn to Say No!

There are pressures from bosses, friends and even family members that could affect the completion of your tasks. It is but a common feeling by most that requests from these people will have to be answered with a "yes", yet you should understand that if this should be the case all the time, you may always fall short of time.

What should be considered here is whether their requests are that important as compared to those that you plan on doing. You should evaluate basing on the effects of their requests versus that on your schedule. The consequences should be considered - and if you should find that you are unable to really comply, then you should make it known appropriately.

Of course, how you approach and say no to your boss is a lot different to how you say it to friends and family. With your boss, an outright no is of course uncalled for - not unless you also want to lose your job in a snap of a finger. You should let your boss know what you are currently working at - and ask him which you should prioritize. This could result to one task's completion date moved to a later time.

For friends and family, you should just let them understand how important it is for you to first accomplish your pending tasks. Let them know of your current situation - if they truly care, they would understand. Just make sure you make up for this time - and perhaps give them a good treat when you are able to do so.

Maximizing That Limited Resource Called TIME

One just can't get enough of time. In too many times, many individuals have wished they had more time in their hands. Yet in too many occasions, people never learn. Time management has not always been practiced, yet many ask why they continue to fall short of it.

Time is so precious - who can argue with this? Yet one can continue to ask, "Why have many still take it for granted?"

If one truly values time, time management should be his first priority. This will enable him to come up with a plan on how to get things accomplished. One will be more orderly in his approach of things. And most importantly, what needs to be prioritized gets done first. This would mean that the tasks that results to bigger impacts are scheduled first.

Yet with time management, you have the say on what is most important, what are critical and which tasks are with lesser impact to you. You determine which needs to be done first according to how you evaluate each task. It all boils down to your preferences and how you judge your situation.

But equally important as time management is one's discipline in sticking on with the schedule initially set. Without it, time management would not be as effective. One's discipline is key towards the accomplishment of tasks and activities set in the schedule.

Time management is only as effective as the person who is implementing it. Time management is only a tool for you to be able to maximize the valuable resource called time. And yet without one's full commitment and discipline - this tool would be without value. To be truly effective - one has to subscribe to time management and have the discipline to endure the activities in the list - until all tasks would be completed.
