University Of Alaska Anchorage

The University of Alaska Anchorage is the largest university in the state of Alaska. The educational system of the University of Alaska extends over three separate certified metropolitan universities, mainly in Anchorage, Fairbanks and Juneau. The University of Alaska Anchorage consists of eight teaching units in its main campus located in Anchorage. These are the Health and Social Welfare, Arts and Sciences, Business and Public Policy, Colleges of Education, School of Engineering, Community and Technical, School of Social Work, and lastly the School of Nursing. The University of Alaska has four community campuses. These are the "Kenai Peninsula College", "Prince William Sound Community College", "Matanuska-Susitna College" and the "Kodiak College". The University of Alaska also offer educational prospects to the Armed Service personnel throughout Alaska.

The University of Alaska Anchorage is also the largest of the University of Alaska System. The University of Alaska System enrolls an estimated 32,000 students by which are studying over four hundred and thirty programs that the University of Alaska System has offered (ranging from certificates to associate's degree programs to bachelor's, master's and doctorate's degrees. The University of Alaska Anchorage is fully recognized by the Commission on Colleges and University of the Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges.

The University of Alaska Anchorage was formerly known as the "Anchorage Community College" which was founded on the year 1954. The Anchorage Community College by then was using the Anchorage High School building at night time. The "Anchorage Senior College" began provided Anchorage Community College with upper division classes in the year 1969, thus becoming University of Alaska Anchorage in 1976. The University of Alaska Anchorage, Anchorage Community College and the Anchorage Community College's rural extensions began merging in 1987 forming the present day institution.

The University of Alaska Anchorage Seawolves is the official sports team of the University of Alaska Anchorage. The colors green and gold are the official colors of the University of Alaska Anchorage. The University of Alaska Anchorage also sponsors eleven sports programs and is under "Division one" of the National Collegiate Athletic Association or the "NCAA" for hockey and gymnastics. The University of Alaska Anchorage is also a member of the "WCHA" or the "Western Collegiate Hockey Association". University of Alaska Anchorage is under "Division II" of the "GNAC" or the "Great Northwest Athletic Conference" in the men's and women's volleyball, basketball, men's and women's outdoor track and field and men's and women's cross country.

The university's aviation department is rapidly growing in the last few years. The University of Alaska - Anchorage is one of the major aviation schools in the United States of America. The aviation program grew as much as 300 percent during the fall semester of the year 2006.
