Top Two Atlanta Newspapers

Few cities in the United States have a daily newspaper that has been published and circulated continuously for more than a hundred years. Until recently, the state of Atlanta has two well-known Atlanta newspapers that have served the whole area and its suburbs with the accurate, reliable, and good-edited news features - the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, and the Atlanta Business Chronicle.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution is actually the final result of the merger between two longtime rivals: the morning Atlanta Constitution and the afternoon Atlanta Journal. The Atlanta Constitution was first published in June 16, 1868, while the Atlanta Journal was debuted on February 24, 1883. It is interesting to know that both the Constitution and the Journal Atlanta newspapers have won nine Pulitzer Prizes and have nurtured the careers of a number of the then and today's famous journalists, such as Henry W. Gardy whose lobbying efforts set the stage for the South's agricultural and industrial growth following a difficult Reconstruction period; Joel Chandler Harris whose colorful Uncle Remus tales, which is an African American folk tales written in dialect first appeared in the Constitution; Margaret Mitchell; Ralph McGill, whose personal essays ran on the front page of the Constitution Atlanta newspaper.

The Journal and Constitution Atlanta newspapers, which had been under common ownership since March 1950, actually merged on November 5, 2001 and are now published daily under a joint masthead. Since the merger, the century-old battle between these two Atlanta newspapers was over.

It is further interesting to know that the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, as its is commonly known today, fought off two serious challenges to their dominance in the last half of the twentieth century, specifically from the Atlanta Times, another well-known Atlanta newspaper, in the 1960s, as well as from the Gwinnett Daily News, which was owned by the New York Times, in the 1990s. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution today is among the top twenty Atlanta newspapers in circulation nationwide. It is even the most influential newspaper voice in the state of Georgia. What's more, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution is now considered as the largest daily Atlanta newspaper in the Southeast, with an average daily circulation of 640,000.

The Atlanta Business Chronicle

The Atlanta Business Chronicle is one of the currently published and circulated daily newspapers in the city of Atlanta and its suburbs. It is now owned by the American City Business Journals, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Advance Publications and is the largest publisher of local business journals in the country. As many people have claimed, the Atlanta Business Chronicle is by far the most credible and believable source of local business news today. It is the common favorite of businessmen, having stood out in their market as the exclusive business news source where local business comes first. Also interesting to know about this Atlanta newspaper is that its editorial fare which is found in the business journals is considered as an ideal sales tool for small businesses, as well as for those who are share common interest in selling products and services to the local business community.
