Barbados Jazz Festival

Music is undeniably one of the major elements of the Barbados culture. And to prove just how serious Bajans are to their musical inclinations, the Barbados Jazz Festival is held on the island every year.

In January of each year, the island's premiere music event happens. The Barbados Jazz Festival is a celebration of the best local and international jazz talents. This festival is held in various venues across the island, from Sir Garfield Sobers Sports Complex' modern structure, to the Sunbury Plantation House' historic setting, as well as the Farley Hill National Park's open-air site.

The Sunbury Plantation House in St. Philip has been existent for more than 300 years. It boasts of its horse-drawn carriage collection, old prints, and mahogany antiques. The Heritage Park or the Rum Factory in St. Philip is another great venue for the annual Barbados Jazz Festival. It is a true expression of authentic Bajan talent and skills with its amphitheater, cluster of shops, and art gallery.

Another popular festival site since it opened its doors in 1992 is the Garfield Sobers Auditorium at St. Michael. It features a multi-functional gymnasium making it an ideal host of the island's most celebrated festivals.

The Farley Hill National Park in St. Peter complements the Barbados Jazz Festival with its fantastic scenery, lush mahogany trees and breathtaking view of the Atlantic Ocean. The Crane Resort & Residences in St. Philip offers more than just your annual dose of jazz music. With its amazing powdery sand and gentle breeze, The Crane is indeed among the world's most spectacular places.

Music is not only a requirement during the island's carnival celebrations, but it's also what locals are ultimately proud of. The islands in the Caribbean, Barbados included, usually play host to the annual festivals that feature top reggae, soca, and jazz artists among others. And with numerous festivals in the different regions throughout the year, you'll definitely find one during your visit.

The Barbados Jazz Festival is considered as one among the most well-known jazz festivals in the Caribbean. The event, otherwise known as "Paint it Jazz", happens mid January of each year. This week-long celebration attracts crowds of tourists all wanting to see talented musicians play each night for hours.
