Shaw Center Baton Rouge

Baton Rouge takes pride in a lot of things - most especially its arts. Hence, it is no surprise how the city came up with the Shaw Center for the Arts. Now, there is one more reason to head out to Baton Rouge.

This 55-million dollar structure is the fulfillment of the belief that the performing arts inspire both the city's economic and personal growth. Thus, after several years of endless preparation, fundraising, and hard work, the Shaw Center in Baton Rouge finally welcomes the public on March 5, 2005.

This breathtaking structure occupies an area equivalent to 125,000 square feet. It is home to a high tech performing arts theater, retail shops, the Museum of Art of the Louisiana State University, gallery space, and numerous restaurants. Furthermore, the Shaw Center in Baton Rouge also provides guests with fascinating views of the Mississippi River.

The LSU Museum of Art, located at the 5th floor of the Shaw Center in Baton Rouge boasts of its exhibition space of 17,000 square feet. The Manship Theatre is a splendid venue for actors, dancers, and musicians. It has a 325-seating capacity, two balconies, one orchestra level, automatic orchestra pit, a huge fly house, and a great audio system. There are also two modern black box theatres next to the Manship, and a large art space called the Brunner Gallery which showcases the works of new artists.

The Shaw Center in Baton Rouge also houses the LSU School of Art Gallery which displays the art pieces done by the students and faculty members of the Louisiana State University. Additional exciting features of the Shaw Center in Baton Rouge includes the LSU Museum Store, the Capital City Grill, the Japanese restaurant called Tsunami, and PJ's Coffee House and Wine Bar, among others.

Since education continues to be the primary goal of Louisiana's art movement, the Shaw Center in Baton Rouge dedicate its second floor to that mission. There are a lot of classrooms intended for music, the arts, and literature, all under the Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge and the LSU School of Art.

The Shaw Center in Baton Rouge opens at 9:00 am from Tuesdays till Saturdays, and at 11:00 am on Sundays. It does not operate on Mondays, although its offices are open at 9:00 am.
