The Bermuda Triangle

Where on earth would you spot a place believed to be the dwelling place of extraterrestrial beings? How about a place where a lot of ships and planes have vanished under highly mysterious circumstances? Or where is it that the laws of physics are taboo? There is only one that comes to mind, the Bermuda Triangle.

Located in the North Atlantic Ocean, the Bermuda Triangle was first sighted by Christopher Columbus. He made mention about peculiar discoveries of weird-looking species near its border. At one instance, he said that together with his crew they were able to notice "strange dancing lights on the horizon". They even saw what looked like a falling meteor.

E.V.W. Jones of the Associated Press, was the first person to document about sudden disappearances in the Bermuda Triangle. He was able to come up with an article about the baffling "evaporation" of ships and aircrafts where he eventually gave the name "The Devil's Triangle". In 1952, which was a year later, George X had a write- up in Fate Magazine stressing the same topic. Vincent Geddis in 1964 took note in his Argosy feature about "The Deadly Bermuda Triangle" which made its "identity" even more publicized.

There are about five famous incidents that happened right in the Bermuda Triangle. They are called as Flight 19, Star Tiger & Star Ariel, Mary Celeste, USS Cyclops and The Spray. Here are some of their stories.
Flight 19 is a squadron of five United States Navy TBM Avenger torpedo bombers that were on a training flight out of Fort Lauderdale in Florida on December 5, 1945. The trip comprised of professional aviators who suddenly disappeared after consistent communication about a number of odd visual effects. According to Charles Berlitz, author of a book entitled The Bermuda Triangle, it was not factual. He explained that the disappearance was impossible since the means of transportation used was also to designed to float for a long period of time. Hence, they should have been found the next day especially that the weather was calm and so were the seas. However, their bodies were never recovered that even the rescue team who went after them was also lost.

The Spray is the name of Captain Joshua Slocum's boat. He was known to be such a skilled mariner and was even the first person to sail over the world all alone. In the fateful day of 1909, he set out on a cruise that will take him to the Bermuda Triangle. He was never seen after that, so with the means of transportation used. Some deemed that he was run down by a streamer or struck by a huge whale. However, there was no evidence that he was really on his way to Bermuda Triangle and it was unlikely for him to get lost especially that he was such an able person on matters of aquatic activities. In 1924, he was declared officially dead. Until now, it remains to be inscrutable but clairvoyant reasons were shunned.
