Royal Copenhagen
The Royal Copenhagen Porcelain Manufactory or more famously known as Royal Copenhagen was established on May 1st of 1775 in the benefaction of Queen Juliane Marie. Through more than a hundred years, unrelenting efforts done by the manufactory had extracted the secret behind excellent porcelain making from Chinese traditions.
Franz Henrich Müller a chemist in Denmark, had devoted his life into porcelain endeavor and with the success of his experimentation in creating an in demand hard porcelain, he received the royal family's support, where an old office for posts on Købmagergade, in Copenhagen's center, was transformed into a manufactory house.
The years 1775 till 1779 were the most laborious beginnings of Royal Copenhagen, where there were difficult daily efforts against ups-and-downs, as well as short of experience, poor production materials, disappointing experiments, and ineffective firings. Nevertheless, Muller and his artisans' team worked with persistence and determination, and consequently succeeded in producing a very solid basis for the sustained survival of the manufactory that King Christian VII assented, and in 1779 took over the manufactory assuring the porcelain manufactory's future.
Today, Royal Copenhagen has produced some of the most prestigious, renowned, and most exquisite porcelain designs and styles, from its most popular creations such as Blue Fluted and Blue Flower, to the world's most impressive Danish porcelain dinner service Flora Danica, to the more high-tech and more elaborate porcelain creations of Royal Copenhagen these days, it has only strengthened its growth and advancement and kept its popularity at the top.
Blue Fluted has been Royal Copenhagen's most popular service for over two-hundred years, having the number one pattern and most popular in Europe during the first manufactories of porcelain. Because the porcelain had a taut stylized floral motive which originated from China, the creation was deemed the essence of authentic porcelain. Even today, Royal Copenhagen continues to do the pattern by hand.
Blue Flower has been Royal Copenhagen's mark since late 1700's giving that spontaneous freshness and providing that essence of a porcelain creation having a "bouquet fresh over 200 years". Today, the Blue Flower is still being produced.
Flora Danica is among the greatest botanical works during the Enlightenment Age, the biggest and most famous dinner service specially made in 1790 by Danish King. It was supposedly a gift for Russia's Catherine the Great.
Royal Copenhagen Danish porcelain celebrated its 225th centenary in 2000, still under the name of Royal Copenhagen, the oldest design corporation in Denmark. The anniversary reflected highlights of the two-hundred-twenty-five years of heritage, tradition, history, and craftsmanship.
