Cyprus Education

Cyprus must have given high premium in educating its citizenry. This is best reflected in the 96.8% literacy rate. For this reason alone one can only surmise that Cyprus education is one of the best in the world.

Cyprus education is the sole responsibility of the Ministry of Education and Culture. However, the other ministries like Labor and Social Insurance, Health, and Agriculture are also contributing to taking care of Cyprus education. Some of the vocational schools and post-secondary institutions are being managed by these agencies.

The Cyprus education system is best known for its five-pronged component. The first of the five is the most basic--- pre-school education. In fact this is the most crucial because the clients are in their formative years. Other countries called this as the early childhood education. The next two components are the primary education, which is popularly known in other countries as elementary education, and secondary education. The last two components are higher education where an individual can actually choose of degree to focus on, and the last but never the least is the informal education where anyone can learn basic skills that can be used later on for employment purposes.

Cyprus education can boast of schools that are of high quality standard. They sure provide excellent teaching instruction as well as facilities and equipment to reinforce the learning of the students. Above all these schools also provide a conducive-to-learning environment so that students’ potentials are honed and maximized.

High school education in Cyprus is compulsory thus the government provide it to its citizenry for free. It is designed for students who are 16-18 years of age. There are many excellent private and public schools all over the country. For the private schools, some of them are using English as the medium of instruction while other schools are also offering exams to qualify in English-speaking schools. For the public schools, admission to the preliminary phase is automatic however there some exams required for all the students to take and pass. Some of the subjects of the exam are Turkish, Greek, Science, Mathematics, English, and Geography.

Cyprus is also proud to have blesses with institutions of higher learning. Some of these universities have international reputation. Cyprus International University and Near East University are both in Nicosia, Eastern Mediterranean University in Famagusta, European University of Lefke, and Girne American Univeristy in Kyrenia are the top universities in Cyprus.

Language schools and training institutes are also fond in Cyprus. Most of the language schools are particularly teaching Greek, Turkish, and English. The training schools are offering various vocational training courses in areas of agriculture, and hospitality industry among others.
