Location Of Fiji --- A Strategic Blessing For The Country

The Pacific Islands are situated in a very beautiful spot on this earth, as it is gifted with the pristine and white beaches, colorful cultures, beautiful people, and more. Fiji, one of these amazing islands of the Pacific, is just as exceptional. The location of Fiji on the map makes it a stunning archipelago of the different Pacific Islands. Surrounded by the Southwest Pacific Ocean, it is neighbors with Vanuatu on the East, Tonga on the West, and Tuvalu on the South. With more than 300 islands and 500 islets, one would truly be in awe of this fascinating island nation.

Looking on the map, one would see that the location of Fiji looks like a constellation; the two big and important islands are Viti Levu and Vanua Levu, with Viti Levu cradling the capital city, which is Suva, and the small islands and islets are spread all over. These islands besides being blessed with awesome shores and beaches are also mountainous, with high peaks reaching to above 4,000 feet.

Because of the geography and location of Fiji, their natural products and resources are also tropical, making it rich in forest, mineral, water, and land resources. They have agricultural and forest products like: sugarcane, coconuts, cassava, rice, sweet potatoes, bananas, and timber; they have cattle like: pigs, horses, and goats; they have marine products like: fish; and they have minerals like: gold, copper, oil, and hydropower.

Dutch and British explorers of the 17th and 18th century have discovered and appreciated the beauty of the islands that Fiji has become a possession of the British crown for quite sometime. With rich arable lands, sugarcane plantation rocketed skyward, indentured laborers from India helped in the cultivation; and this led to the influx of Indians on the island, and a part of Fiji's history.

Having such location of Fiji on the globe, many islands and islets have played major roles in the prosperity of the nation. Fiji's major towns include: Nadi, where the international airport is situated, Yasawa Group and Mamanuca Group, which are tourist destinations, Rotuma, which has a special administrative status, and other important islands are: Lautoka, Labasa, Savusavu, Taveuni, Kadavu, and Lomaiviti Group. So, this basically shows that the wonders of the archipelago are not attributed to only one island or concentrated in one area only, rather, it covers the entirety of the place.

With the strategic location of Fiji on the waters of the great Pacific, it is truly a good advantage for the country because it gets to enjoy a tropical climate, amazing beaches and vacation getaways, and wonderful natural resources.
