Grand Canyon University

Earning a degree at a prestigious Christian university located in Phoenix, Arizona is a great opportunity. And over the years, the Grand Canyon University has remained one of the Best Buys as per the US News and World Report.

The Grand Canyon University has truly grown from its humble beginnings as a non-profit organization when it was founded in the year 1949. The Southern Baptists of Arizona felt the necessity to create an institution that's based on faith, which would provide the local Baptists a chance to acquire either a Bachelor degree or a Master's degree. The institution is conceived so that Baptists need not have to head out to the other Baptist Colleges on other states.

The land, finances, as well as the physical labor necessary to turn the Grand Canyon College into a reality were all donations from the Baptist Church and its members. The institution, which was initially known as the Grand Canyon College was then called the Grand Canyon University starting 1989.

Around 2003, Grand Canyon University began going into financial difficulties that were so bad that these almost drove it to its closure. To prevent this, the institution was sold to Significant Education, LLC in the first month of 2004. The California-based new owner of the Grand Canyon University turned the school into the country's first-ever commercial Christian college. Due to the restructuring, the Grand Canyon University's tenured faculty has to be released as they are said to be inappropriate for the new for-profit system of the school.

Even if the Grand Canyon University has turned from a non-profit institution to a commercial Christian school, it continues to think of better means for student development within the campus. A whooping three-million campus development facility aims to offer safe and productive venue for socializing when school is out. Highlights of the said facility includes multi-purpose concert hall, basketball courts, coffeehouse, game room, computer or study rooms, walls for rock-climbing, and a recording studio. Special activities that make it the venue are mostly in cooperation with the local community, as well as church organizations.

Student life at the Grand Canyon University is as an enriching experience as any other institution can offer. With its extensive athletics programs and exciting residence life opportunities, each student is definitely going to earn more than just a college degree. And with the school's half a century of impressive reputation and outstanding faculty, the best quality education is within reach.
