Like all the other plantations, 24-hour security personnel patrol the gates and the streets of Sea Pines.

Palmetto Dunes – One of the most popular gated communities Hilton Head Island South Carolina, Palmetto Dunes consists of two private residential neighborhoods, Mariner's Section and Leamington. Here you will find luxurious resorts such as the Hilton Oceanfront Resort and the Marriott Beach and Golf Resort. The community also boasts of a 3-mile beach, lagoons, golf courses, tennis courts and a 6-mile bike trail.

Port Royal Plantation – The second plantation community built on Hilton Head Island, Port Royal has many historical landmarks such as the forts during the Civil War and was the landing site of Captain William Hilton in 1663. It has over 1,000 acres of private residential area with beautiful ocean views from a 3-mile beach and thriving forests as well as golf courses.

Wexford Plantation – South of Hilton Head Island is this 525-acre residential, golf and yachting community, which is perhaps the most grandiose and exclusive gated community in Hilton Head Island. The plantation's clubhouse alone is worth millions of dollars. Its elegant streets and luxurious homes with private docks characterize this stately neighborhood. An 8-foot windmill and a 37.5-acre harbour are some of unique features of Wexford.

Other gated communities Hilton Head Island South Carolina are Indigo Run, Long Cove Plantation, Palmetto Hall, Spanish Wells and Windmill Harbour.
