A luggage bag can be any type of container or bag that holds a person’s belongings whilst traveling from place to place.

Nowadays a traveler is likely to travel with more than one type of luggage bag for instance they may have a separate luggage bag to hold their toiletries, small possessions, clothes and may even have computer luggage in tow as well.

For some people their style and type of luggage bag is used as a representation of how wealthy they are.

Over time the shape and size of luggage has changed. Decades ago the usual type of luggage bag would have been a chest or trunk which would have been made from wood or other equally heavy materials. This luggage had to be moved by professional movers but by the onset of World War Two more lightweight and smaller luggage bags became popular. These could be carried about by the owner and was a much more practical way of getting one’s belongings from one place to another.

As technology moved on and travel became more popular, especially air travel, the luggage bag started to change design again. Airlines have set specifications for luggage for both luggage that is going into the hold and hand luggage.

Hand luggage or carry-on for airline travel is possibly the one type of luggage bag that has seen the greatest changes. As passengers are restricted in the number of carry-on bags they can have they have become larger but they must fit into the compartment above the seat or under the seat in front. If they do not measure up to these requirements that bag will be stowed in the hold. As a guideline a luggage bag being used as a carry-on should have a maximum length of 22 inches, width of 18 inches and depth of 10 inches including all wheels, side pockets and handles.

Other types of luggage bag that are used regularly are trunks which come in various sizes and are more commonly used for storage or transporting larger belongings a long distance.

Then we have the suitcase, which again comes in a variety of sizes, materials, colors and styles. Suitcases are now easier to handle as many of the newly designed suitcases come with wheels and handles.

Garment bags are great as they are a style of luggage bag that allows longer garments to be packed flat and with the bag just folding over itself helps to avoid garment creasing.

A tote is a small bag that can be carried comfortably over the shoulder or can be pulled along on wheels.
A back- pack is very useful and is carried on the back. Even a small back-pack can hold a fair piece of luggage. These are a favorite of the casual traveler as is the duffle bag. These are barrel shaped and soft sided but with a duffle bag there is very little ability to organize your luggage.
