The Gulf Coast Community College is one of the public community colleges in Florida that is situated within a commuting distance of the majority of its population.

In the first nine years of the Gulf Coast Community College in Panama City Beach, it primarily served the residents of the Bay County area. It then added the Gulf County as part of its service district in 1966 and later added Franklin County in 1984. More than seven thousand students enroll in credit courses every semester, with thousands more enrolling in their lifelong learning courses or also known as continuing education programs. During 1957 until spring of 1960, the Gulf Coast Community College in Panama City Beach operated in temporary facilities on the Wainwright Shipyard, which was situated just across the street from the its present location. The City Government of Panama City Beach provided forty acres for the construction of a permanent campus. The construction of the permanent campus of the Gulf Coast Community College commenced on 1959 and was completed a year after. The new campus of overlooked the stunning St. Andrew Bay.

The Gulf Coast Community College in Panama City Beach is one of the comprehensive public institutes in the country. The Gulf Coast Community College provides high quality yet affordable education to the residents of Bay, Gulf and Franklin counties in Florida. Gulf Coast Community College also provides more than five hundred scholarships to its students annually. It offers scholarships on two year courses to students that recently graduated with honors from high school. The Gulf Coast Community College also provides scholarship grants for students who have demonstrated specific talents, students who have excelled academically, students who have academic potential and students in need of financial assistance.
