Paris

Paris Is Known As The City Of Lights.

Paris is known as the city of lights and for good reason. One of the great things about Paris is actually touring the city at night. Almost every monument, every museum, right down to the quaint little coffee shops are lit up.

Although some of the museums and other sites are actually closed, their beauty in the night is worth just viewing. Paris is ultimately illuminated by lighting, and many of the buildings are large.

There are several places that make sure the lights are lit and all working properly, including the Eiffel tower. Right up to the beacon at the top of it. Paris goes to great lengths to make sure all the lights work on most of the important buildings, and the smaller shops and buildings seem to follow along.

Paris has large cathedrals and museums as well as other large monuments that are all lit up at night. Some of the buildings are long and broad and the lighting on them carry hundreds of light fixtures.

Paris is truly the city of lights. The pyramid that was formerly a royal palace has so many lights they are being changed out everyday, where one has gone out. These lights by the way are not just simple light bulbs either. In most cases they are lighting fixtures aligning the buildings.

Some say the lighting goes back to the founding of Paris in 360 AD when it was considered an island of fortress, large poles with flames on them were lit and constantly stayed lit for those coming along the Sienne River. Later there were two wooden bridges that connected Paris to the mainland on both sides. However the large poles stayed lit.

After that when Paris started to flourish and the oil lamp came into the picture, they were not only placed on street corners but up and down the streets. From then on, the lighting system simply took on the trend and has stayed that way to this day.

Some say there is not one place in Paris that is not lit up at night, some say it is superstition while others say its recognition of Paris being a fortress for those traveling down the river.

The only place where one would not find places with a lot of lighting is in residential areas, but even in these places there are more dwellings where you will find a light in the middle of the yard. As for being known as the city of lights this is definitely not a theory, you can see it from a far distance in the air, if you were in a plane flying over. It is not hard to determine where Paris is at night.

Will this tradition change? That is doubtful, as time goes by and more buildings are built in Paris, they too, have exceptional lighting systems on the outside of the buildings as well as inside.

Paris is the city of lights, and a place where visiting it even at night is breath taking.
