The power yoga is basically considered around the world as the Western version of Ashtanga, an Indian yogic practice that has drawn interest from thousands of people on earth. The power yoga on its most basic put a great emphasis on the development of the person's physiological flexibility. It also teaches the virtue of self-discipline, which according to its principles is important for obtaining wellbeing.

The power yoga is named as such simply for the reason that it is one of the different types of yoga that is performed vigorously. It is solely based on fitness and involves movements that are proven to boost physical health and wellbeing. It also promotes to a sense of mental stability as well as concentration. However, for the beginners of the practice, the power yoga should be performed slowly and carefully as it may hurt at the outset.

Speaking of movements, the power yoga is done primarily through a series of poses, much like that of the typical yoga. The poses are done along with proper breathing patterns known in Indian as Vinyasa. These breathing exercises are considered specifically knowing that every action performed has the capability to yield a sense of grace and unity. Claims have it that for those who are not practicing the power yoga, the positions and techniques involved may seem easy and free-flowing. The truth is, it is not a soft practice for power yoga is so vigorous that it involves pushing and contorting movements. The limbic parts are usually the target of the movements, which are done with strong concentration.

It is further worth knowing that the techniques involved in power yoga vary according to transitions. There are some poses that are performed longer than what you may expect. The required five breaths may not even be enough just for a single pose. Also, the poses in power yoga are associated specifically on the backbone of the so-called “Sun Salutation” positions. These poses are said to be for the advanced yogis, and performing these without proper knowledge of the yoga basics can be a bit risky for the performer.

Well, before the techniques are performed by the power yogis, warm ups are typically considered. This is also true among the other practices. However, in power yoga the warm ups are done to allow the yogis to relax. It is also considered to stretch the muscles of your body, allowing you to move with flexibility. It is further interesting to know that the warm ups as well as the actual techniques or poses involved in power yoga are done in a heated room simply to allow the body to obtain an ultimate level of flexibility. It is for this reason basically that the practice is now considered by many as only appropriate for the physically fit.
