Yoga has been around for about 5,000 years. Millions of people have already practiced it on regular basis for several good reasons, and it's nice to know that many of those who have considered yoga as part of their lives have attained better health and wellbeing.

Well, yes. Yoga is said to offer a number of benefits to every individual. It is noted for great relaxation effects, and several recent researches associate it with certain medical conditions, with yoga being considered as highly potent for treating conditions like asthma, cardiovascular disorders, mental illness, and others.

However, yoga does not just come in one single form. Although it is often associated by people to asanas or postures, there is more to yoga than being exercises. In fact, it comes in a number of types, and each type possesses certain principles that every practitioner should follow.

Of the many of types of yoga, the most well-known is the Hatha Yoga. This is the most popular simply for the reason that most people often associate this type with the general yoga practice. Also, hatha is one of the best types of yoga that provide the basics to the practice. It involves the basic yoga poses and movements, as well as the fundamental breathing techniques. The movements are slow paced and gentle, making this type really perfect for the beginners.

There is also the Kundalina Yoga which pays much emphasis on breathing techniques which are executed along with proper physical movements. It is this type actually which is more focused to the aim of freeing energy in the lower part of the body, allowing it to flow directly to the upper parts of the body. Power Yoga is but another notable type of yoga that has drawn interest from people since its inception. Of the well-known types of yoga, it is the one which performs asanas in intense and fast-paced means. This is in fact considered throughout the fitness industry as the most vigorous activity available.

There are a lot more great types of yoga, including the Raja, Jnana, Bhakti, Karma, Tantra, Kashmir Shaivism, Vinyasa, Bikram, and a lot more. Some of these types of yoga are simply variations, but each features certain aspects that are to some degree unique from the others.
