Ipod Touch

Ipod touch: Everything at your fingertips

Although the video of the previous iPod releases was a stunning feature, its screen is undeniably too small to give justice to a movie with a widescreen format. Apple obviously knew the iPod was deficient of something even though it seemed to feature everything. The company wanted the iPod to be renowned as the smallest media player that incorporates features of its full-size counterparts, such as audio components and wide-screen LCD or HDTV television.

Nonetheless, making the iPod big enough, to make sense out of the video feature, can make the iPod lose much of its portable appeal. To address this issue, Apple created an iPod with a 3.5-inch screen that covers more than 90% of its surface and operates using a touch-screen interface. The touch-screen interface works using a layer of “capacitive” material which lies beneath a protective covering.

The iPod Touch resembles that of an iPhone but there are distinct differences in their features. The wide screen display can be used for navigational purposes as well by simply touching the icons.

Features
The iPod Touch and iPhone do share several common features, including flash memory, WiFi capabilities, Safari web browser, audio, video, and photo storage and playback, YouTube video player, contacts and calendars you can sync with your PC, clock and calculator applications, access to iTunes Music Store through WiFi connection, and dock and headphone connections.

Other remarkable features of the iPod Touch are the ambient light and accelerometer sensors which automatically adjusts the screen's brightness and position, respectively. The ambient light sensor makes battery life more efficient while the accelerometer changes the screen's position and the images from portrait to landscape and vice versa when you tip the iPod Touch. This smart feature lets you enjoy watching wide-screen movie formats through a smaller widescreen display or view photos in their proper ratios.

The WiFi Reach
Many WiFi-enabled electronic devices are capable of exploring within a particular area where there is presence of wireless connections. Apple is and will be working with participating Starbucks stations to allow iPod Touch to scan and figure out what songs are playing and then provide users with direct links to these songs in the iTunes Store. Starbuck News and Seattle has this ability starting October 2007 while more Starbucks stations in major cities are set to activate theirs.

The iPod Touch is generally similar to other iPod models except for the touch-screen interface which is the distinctive feature of this model. The iPod Touch is a combination of convenience and premium electronic technology rolled into an 8mm (depth) device. Are you ready for the future?
