Ipod Touch Applications: Touching Reality

Want to know more about iPod Touch? This media player version to the iPhone has lots of great things in its shell. This is not the article to read if you want to know about iPod Touch applications in-depth. But this here is an overview of all the applications in Apple's 2005 release iPod Touch.

iTunes Wi-Fi Store – Apple does not offer any type of video content on the iPod Touch's Wi-Fi Music Store. But if you desperately want videos into your iPod Touch you can simply download them from your Mac. Despite its Wi-Fi capability, the iPod Touch was designed with no access to Internet radio, unlike Mac.

Photo Player – The iPod Touch's 3.5-inch LCD screen is magnificent at displaying photos. In fact, it may soon become one of your favorite iPod Touch applications. A touch at the Photo icon and you can open albums you've downloaded, where photos are shown in thumbnail images. The iPod Touch features an image sensor that automatically rotates photos no matter how you orient the screen. Enjoy watching a slideshow of your pictures or touch a single photo to enlarge it.

Video player – With 5 straight hours of video playback (at full charge) on a 3.5-inch screen, this is a big improvement in the previous iPod Touch applications typical 2-inch screen of other iPod models. The controls function at one touch (and they hide automatically by themselves after about 2 seconds). The controls include a volume slider, Pause/Play, and forward or back buttons.

Music Player – Music may not be your no. 1 reason for buying an iPod Touch once you're familiarized with all the iPod Touch applications. iPod Touch can play up to 24 hours of audio so make sure you've previously filled it with enough songs. This particular application has two modes: List views and CoverFlow. The latter is more album-oriented but limited (unfortunately, there are no volume controls under this mode which is what you get when the iPod is in a horizontal orientation). The vertical music orientation gives you more control options but it seems lacking in volume controls as well.

YouTube application – This is one of the iPod Touch applications that seem to be oddly included in the model's limited palette. Yet, it offers a number of content and supports other interface elements within the device. The playback controls in the YouTube application resembles those in the video player with the addition of history and bookmarks.

Two iPod Touch applications – a calculator and world clock (supporting multiple time zones) – fall under the Desk Accessories option. Also under this option are Timer and Alarm, Stopwatch, Contacts, and Calendar applications.

The iPod Touch applications discussed here exclude the Safari web browser which you can use with your Mac. Don't let words deceive you. It's best to experience iPod Touch yourself.
